Ways to Use Your Visual Radiator
I am spending time at the moment as a Team coach (yes, am still facilitating Leadership Labs but am balancing the two ) and have noticed a trend in the area I work where teams have their work on a wall, but never refer to the wall! So I have been coming up with ideas to bring the visualization of work and flow back into the heart of what the team does. Here are my thoughts! What ideas have you used in the past ?
- To get individuals to talk to cards (aka stories), a small tag they need to put their name onto and then they tag the work item
- To start to manage WIP limits – individuals get 2 tags
- To visualize all work (not all the work is as a story, we also have ad hoc work and before we get into the theory, my goal here is to help the team see all their work so we can start to make more qualified decisions and pick up patterns… so I am more in Kanban than Scrum)… advice cards, if you ask someone to perform a task it goes on a sticky, if you talk about a task or a blocker it goes into a sticky
My goal is to be able to stop talking about status because we can see that and start talking about flow!
